Summoning Technopagans

Some of you might know that our digital resources are run by us, on our own servers. Our main communications platform, therefore, is not part of someone else’s cloud. It’s part of our own home-crafted cloud. We own and control the data (well… we can’t control what individuals do on their devices, but… mostly this is true). This is a situation that makes enough of our folks happy that it’s worth doing.

We could use some help. It’s not an onerous amount of work to keep our tech working, but it does require some specific, and somewhat advanced, technical skills. At the moment, it’s mostly done by one person (me).

In the past, we have had interns (very good ones!). We are happy to teach. By ‘we’, mostly, I mean ‘I’. But, if ever I have help, I’m sure the help would be happy to teach, too. So, if you don’t have these skills, but would like to learn, let us know. You don’t have to be an intern, specifically. But, if you’d like to do an internship with us, we can handle that. We have no money, so it’s not a paid internship.

If you’ve got the skills, and can spare some time, we could use the help.

Here is a listing of some of the technologies we use:

  • Linux
  • Docker / Docker Swarm
  • Matrix Synapse (usually with Element as front end)
  • Traefik
  • Filesystems and backups
  • WordPress
  • Databases : MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • PHP
  • BASH

Send an email to aap@athensareapagans.org if you’d like to learn more.

And… if the sites are down… we’re working on it. Let us know if the outage lasts too long.
